The Secret Ingredient

The Secret Ingredient at Elora's Newest Cafe

The Wild and Free Cafe

By: Donna Doouss

There is a specific feeling you get when you walk into a place that was built with intention. It’s not just the smell of freshly roasted coffee or the light streaming through the windows of a beautifully restored century home—it’s the soul of the place.

I recently spent some time at The Wild and Free Café at 58 Geddes Street in Elora, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

More Than a Menu
When owner Twila Erb set out to open this space, she wanted it to feel like home. And it does. But the real "magic" here is their mission. Wild and Free isn't just about the caffeine kick; it’s a social enterprise dedicated to supporting women finding freedom from exploitation. A portion of every purchase goes directly toward trauma-informed job training and support for survivors through Elora House.

Meet the Team
The staff are, in a word, incredible. You can feel the warmth the moment you step inside. While the mission is heavy, the atmosphere is light, welcoming, and vibrant. Whether you’re grabbing a seat in the main house or the cozy Carriage House, there is a sense of community that is rare to find.

And let’s talk about the food.
Chef Nick and the team are serving up fare that lives up to the "high quality" promise. From their signature Wild Ginger coffee (transparently traded and locally roasted) to the fresh, seasonal treats, everything is prepared with a level of care that matches the café’s bigger vision.

Why It Matters to Centre Wellington
We live in a place known for its beauty, but it’s businesses like Wild and Free that give our community its depth. It’s a reminder that we can do good just by showing up for a midday latte or a lunch date with a friend.

If you haven’t visited yet, make this your March "must-do." Grab a coffee, stay for the vibe, and know that your morning ritual is helping change a life right here in our corner of the world.
