Summer Festivals

Celebrating Community in Centre Wellington

by: Donna Doouss

July is the quintessential month for embracing the outdoors and joining in the festivals that define summer in Elora, Fergus, and Belwood. Each community offers a distinct blend of natural beauty and vibrant celebrations, inviting everyone to explore and create unforgettable memories.

Elora comes alive with its renowned Elora Festival, running from July 11 to 27, 2025. This world-class classical and choral music festival offers performances in intimate venues, alongside free "Music in the Village" concerts at the Elora Green Space (check their schedule for specific dates like July 11, 13, 18, 20, 25).
Later in the month, don't miss Elora's Longest BBQ on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, a fantastic culinary celebration kicking off Food Day Canada in downtown Elora, showcasing local flavorus and community spirit.

Fergus is set to transport you back in time with its unique Fergus Medieval Faire, taking place on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Downtown Fergus transforms into a lively medieval village with knights, artisans, and entertainers – a truly unique family-friendly experience!
While the main Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games is in August, the excitement builds throughout July for this iconic celebration of Scottish heritage.

While Belwood may have fewer large-scale, date-specific festivals, its community spirit shines through its natural offerings and smaller, local gatherings. Visitors flock to the Belwood Lake Conservation Area for popular July activities like boating, fishing, and waterside picnics. The Elora Cataract Trailway, linking Belwood, is also a popular spot for cycling and walks (with guided rides like Elora to Belwood by various outdoor clubs), offering peaceful connection with nature and fostering local connection. Additionally, be sure to check out the Skol House in Belwood on social media for special outdoor concerts featuring local musicians!  Keep an eye out for community picnics or artisan markets that might pop up throughout the month.

These festivals are more than just entertainment; they are a celebration of our local culture, arts, and the beautiful natural surroundings we are so fortunate to enjoy.
