Cozy Indoor Activities
Exploring Centre Wellington's Recreation Centres
By: Donna Doouss
As the great outdoors near Belwood Lake and along the Elora Gorge become a little too chilly for prolonged exploration, December is the perfect time to discover the incredible range of indoor recreation options right here in Centre Wellington. Our community centres are the pulse of local activity, offering everything from serious fitness to casual family fun.
The Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex (Fergus)
The CW Community Sportsplex is truly a central hub for activity in Fergus. It’s not just a rink—it’s a multifaceted facility designed to keep every age group moving and engaged.
- The Rotary Aquatic Centre: Beat the winter blues with a swim! This centre features a 25-metre lane pool for serious training and a warm leisure pool with a water slide for families and children. Plus, for adults, there’s a relaxing whirlpool to unwind after a long day.
- Fitness & Fun: The Sportsplex is home to a dedicated weight room and hosts a variety of engaging MOSSA fitness classes like Group Power (strength training) and Group Ride (cycling), perfect for maintaining your health goals through the colder months.
Elora’s Hub of Activity
Over in Elora, the Jefferson Elora Community Centre offers another fantastic facility, featuring an arena and a community hall. As indoor recreation popularity grows, so do the opportunities! Did you know this centre is a popular spot for Indoor Pickleball? It’s a great, low-impact way to stay active and meet new friends—just remember to register in advance!
Active Living for All Ages
Beyond the main sports complexes, the Victoria Park Seniors Centre in Fergus is a wonderful resource for the 55+ community. It offers a wide range of social, health, recreational, and educational activities tailored to support active, healthy lifestyles. It’s a true testament to Centre Wellington’s commitment to lifelong community engagement.
Whether you're lacing up skates for a friendly game, joining an Aquafit class, or picking up a new sport like Pickleball, Centre Wellington ensures that the shift indoors for winter is anything but boring. These facilities are more than just buildings; they are places where our community comes together, stays healthy, and connects—right through the coziest months of the year.
